Lace is delicate and fragile, settling across the skin like a web. The delicate structure and the balance between open and worked surfaces challenge our eye to look more closely – both at the fine tissue itself and its photographic reproduction. The exhibition “Fragile Beauties: Lace in Fashion and Photography” at the MK&G showcases instances of lace found in exemplary works in the collection, some of them dating from the 1910s and 20s by, among others, the outstanding German lace artist Leni Matthaei and the well-known photographer Madame d’Ora.
