A New Welcome
MK&G opens new foyer
The MK&G welcomes visitors with a new foyer. The reception area was redesigned by the Hamburg firm Studio Besau Marguerre and the remodelling work was carried out in collaboration with SWP-Architekten. Sprinkenhof GmbH supervised the project planning. The design concept focuses in particular on clear routing and rapid orientation for visitors. A new colour scheme and improved acoustics create a pleasant atmosphere. Both the visitor experience and security in the museum are enhanced while services are taken to a new level. The foyer is accessed via the main museum entrance on Steintorplatz (via Brockesstraße).
On permanent display at the MK&G
The popular installation "Shylight" by artist duo DRIFT is on permanent display in the MK&G. The kinetic sculpture with magnificent silk flowers that gracefully unfold and retract was exhibited earlier this year as part of the exhibition "DRIFT. Moments of Connection" earlier this year. Property of the Stiftung Hamburger Kunstsammlungen - acquired for the MK&G 2022.
Eleven to Zero
Hamburg museums take action
Global sustainability transformation is one of the key challenges of our time. Under the auspices of the MK&G, eleven Hamburg museums, exhibition spaces and memorial sites are now taking up this challenge. In the "Eleven to Zero" project, they are joining forces to tackle the issue of sustainability and operational ecology in a structured manner in a pilot project that is unique in all of Germany.
Open project room and meeting place
The "Freiraum" is accessible free of charge during the museum's opening hours and welcomes visitors to relax, read, work and discuss.
Shaping the world
The MK&G collection ranges from antiquity to contemporary innovations, encompassing the European, East Asian and Islamic cultural areas. The museum regards itself as an institution for discourse and considers the designing of our world as one of the most significant issues of our time.
