"Gedenke des Todes" mahnt der Kopf mit vier Gesichtern: Kleinkind, Totenschädel, Mann und Frau. Der Gegensatz von Leben und Tod spiegelt den Gedanken, dass der Beginn des Lebens schon der des Sterbens ist. Das kleinformatige Kabinettstück ist ein typisches Symbol für die Vanitas, die Vergänglichkeit alles Irdischen.
