Aus dem niedrigen bauchigen Behälter mit eingetiefter Bodenmitte wächst über einer Einziehung ein schlanker, sich nach oben verjüngender Röhrenhals von etwa fünffacher Höhe. Der stark ausladende wulstige Mündungsrand sitzt schief auf dem ebenfalls schief verlaufenden Hals. Der glatte Mündungsteller ist innen gegen den Hals abgesetzt.
Diese Gefäßform wird als Unguentarium – auch Lacrimarium oder Balsamarium – bezeichnet. Die Bezeichnung stammt vom lateinischen unguentum (Salbe) und verweist auf die ursprüngliche Verwendung für Duftöle oder Parfum.
