Diese aus Email gefertigte Tabatière in Form eines Mopses wurde unter Mitgliedern des Mopsordens verschenkt. Die 1740 gegründete Geheimloge freimaurerischer Prägung hatte den Mops zur Symbolfigur gewählt. Sein zuverlässiger und treuer Charakter versinnbildlichte in besonderer Weise das Ordensprinzip. Die aus Ostasien stammende Hunderasse erfreute sich im 18. Jahrhundert mit der aufkommenden Chinamode in Europa großer Beliebtheit. Der Mops zierte nicht nur solche Dosen zur Aufbewahrung von Schnupftabak, sondern war auch als freistehende Porzellanfigur verbreitet.
