Die frontal thronende Göttin Isis in eng anliegendem Gewand hält mit ihrer Linken den Horusknaben. Mit der Rechten fasst Sie sich an ihre linke Brust, um ihm diese zu reichen. Das Haupt der Göttin ziert die von Kuhhörnern eingefasste Sonnenscheibe.
Die Füße stehen auf einer rechteckigen Basis, die an der Unterseite in einem Einsatzzapfen endet.
Die Göttin Isis empfing von ihrem Brudergemahl Osiris den Horusknaben. Aus Sorge um das Kind gebar sie es in der Einsamkeit der Nilsümpfe, um es vor Nachstellungen ihres Bruders Seth zu schützen. Isis war für die Ägypter Göttin der Liebe, Gottes- und Sonnenmutter sowie Königin des westlichen Himmels. Isis mit dem Horusknaben – auch als Isis lactans bekannt – ist Ausdruck des familiären Schutzes. Die Ikonografie erinnert an Darstellungen der Maria mit dem Jesuskind; so hält es auch ein Teil der Forschung für möglich, dass sich der Marienkult aus dem bis in christliche Zeit verbreiteten Isis-Glauben entwickelt haben könnte.
