Als zylindrisches, freistehend gedachtes Schreibmöbel ist der Sekretär von einzigartiger Originalität. Trotz des ungewöhnlichen Motivs des von Säulen umstellten Tempietto zeichnet es sich durch einen strengen, geschlossenen Umriss aus. Der neuartige Stil der Wiener Möbelkunst, der in den Jahren nach 1820 entstand, verzichtet auf Bemalung, Vergoldung und Schnitzwerk und betont die glatte, geschlossene Fläche des Mahagoniholzes mit seiner zurückhaltenden Maserung.
