Schminkpaletten aus grau-grünem Schiefergestein sind charakteristisch für die Naqada-Kultur des 4. Jahrtausends v. Chr. Auf ihnen wurden Mineralien zerrieben und Farben angerührt. Es handelt sich um Augenschminke schwarzer oder grüner Farbe, die im Kult zum Bemalen des Kulbildes, aber auch im täglichen Leben verwendet wurde. Als Grabbeigaben wurden sie den Verstorbenen mitgegeben.
