Die lanzettförmige Schminkpalette weist einige Ausbrüche an den Kanten auf. Des Weiteren ist der obere Abschluss, der wohl in zwei voneinander abgewendeten stilisierten Vogelköpfen bestand, nicht erhalten. Eine Seite der Palette ist flach, die andere gewölbt. Durch den Gebrauch sind auf beiden Seiten deutliche Eintiefungen in der Mitte zu erkennen.
Schminkpaletten aus grau-grünem Schiefergestein sind charakteristisch für die Naqada-Kultur des 4. Jahrtausends v. Chr. Auf ihnen wurden Mineralien zerrieben und Farben angerührt. Es handelt sich um Augenschminke schwarzer oder grüner Farbe, die im Kult zum Bemalen des Kulbildes, aber auch im täglichen Leben verwendet wurde. Als Grabbeigaben wurden sie den Verstorbenen mitgegeben.
