Die schon frühzeitig erkennbare Tendenz, die Fibel über ihre ursprüngliche Funktion als Gewandsicherung als Träger figürlichen oder ornamentalen Schmuckes zu nutzen, erreicht bei diesem Glanzstück künstlerischer und handwerklicher Perfektion einen Höhepunkt. Eine nüchterne Beschreibung von Wellenschlaufen, Palmetten und Rankenschlingen aus einem Netzwerk von Filigrandrähten und Granulationskügelchen kann die Wirkung und das Raffinement im Dekor dieses Objekts nur andeuten.
Etruskische und unteritalisch-griechische Elemente vereinen sich zu einem Werk, das in der Prunkhaftigkeit der Verzierung einen Geschmack reflektiert, als dessen Zentrum man sich gut die "Weltstadt" Tarent vorstellen kann.
