Dieses Prunkbecken ist ein repräsentatives Schaustück und ein besonders meisterhaftes Zeugnis für die glanzvolle Barockzeit Hamburgs. Als Teil einer Gieß-Garnitur zierte es ursprünglich ein barockes Schaubüfett. Die dazugehörige Kanne ist jedoch leider verloren. Die Reiter stellen die Gründer der vier großen Weltreiche des Altertums dar: Ninus steht für Babylon, Cyrus für Persien, Alexander der Große für Griechenland und Julius Caesar für Rom. Die Darstellung bezieht sich auf die alt-testamentarische Prophezeiung vom Untergang der vier Weltreiche des Altertums und dem verheißungsvollen Aufstieg des ewigen christlichen Gottesreiches.
