Das antike Skepsis lag im oberen Tal des Skamander-Flusses in der kleinasiatischen Landschaft Troas. 310 v. Chr. wurden die Bewohner der Stadt von dem Diadochenherrscher Antigonos Monophtalmos in die von ihm gegründete Stadt Antigoneia zwangsweise umgesiedelt. Nach der Schlacht von Ipsos 301 v. Chr. erlaubte ihnen Lysimachos allerdings die Rückkehr.
