Diese aus Frankreich eingeführte repräsentative Vertäfelung im Louis-Seize-Stil schmückte ursprünglich die Bel Etage im Haus des Kaufmanns und Ratsherrn Nicolaus Gottlieb Lütkens (1716–1788) in der Katharinenstraße 17 in Hamburg. Hier zeigt sich der Zeitgeist der Aufklärung: Ein ursprünglich absolutistisches Formengut aus der Zeit König Ludwig XVI. wird übertragen auf die großbürgerliche Wohnkultur. Der junge Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) gab im Alter von 17 Jahren in dem, zwischenzeitlich von der berühmten Hamburger Pianofortefabrik Schröder genutzten, Saal sogar sein zweites öffentliches Konzert.
