Auf dem Bein ist die Adoption eines aus dem Wasser gezogenen Findelkindes mit dem sprechenden Namen Naru-Eriba ('der Fluss hat mir ersetzt') beurkundet. Der Text besagt, dass die Dienerin einer Palastdame, Frau eines Mannes namens Assur-idin, ein ausgesetztes Kind gefunden hat, das auf einem Fluss trieb. Sie zog das Kind groß und nahm es als Sohn auf. Bemerkenswert ist die Nähe zur biblischen Moses-Erzählung.
Der Text orientiert sich an einer Vertragsurkunde: Dem Verbot, gegen den beurkundeten Vorgang zu klagen, folgen Konventionalstrafe, Datum und Zeugenliste. Bei der regulären Adoption ergreift der Adoptierende den Fuß des Kindes, worauf Zeugen den Vorgang durch ein Siegel bestätigen und so rechtsgültig machen.
In diesem Fall fungieren vier Götter als Zeugen. Eine Klage wird durch die angedrohte Strafe – die Herausgabe von sechs Söhnen und des beanspruchten Kindes – sinnlos. Offenbar war sich die Frau, die das Kind gefunden hatte, ihres Anspruchs nicht sicher und versuchte nun, es mit Hilfe dieser Urkunde zu schützen. Die Gestaltung der Urkunde in Form eines Fußes weist auf den Inhalt hin: die Festschreibung der Adoption.
