Hildegard Heises Fotografien zeugen von einem vielfältigen künstlerischen und freundschaftlichen Netzwerk. Von den 1930ern bis in die 1950er Jahre entstehen in zahlreichen Porträtsitzungen Aufnahmen etwa von Oskar Kokoschka, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Alfred Mahlau oder dem Maler und Schauspieler Hans Holtorf. Hildegard Heise nimmt außerdem zahlreiche Aufträge zur Dokumentation künstlerischer, kunstgewerblicher und architektonischer Werke an. Die Sach- und Reproduktionsfotografien bilden dieses Netzwerk Heises ab, das auch nahezu vergessene Designerinnen wie die Weberinnen Alen Müller-Hellwig, Johanna Schütz-Wolff und Ruth Schaumann sowie die Keramikerin Trude Petri umfasst.
