Kantharos (A | B: zwei Fabelwesen)

Während die Form und auch das Thema der Dekoration entfernt an griechische Vorbilder erinnern, entsprechen Stil und Technik dieses Gefäßes der faliskischen Tradition. Typisch für die faliskische Keramik ist der dunkelbraune Ton, der als Impasto bezeichnet wird und der Gattung ihren Namen gibt.
In die Oberfläche sind auf beiden Seiten chimärenartige Fabelwesen eingeschabt: Flügelpferde, denen ein Ziegenkopf aus dem Rücken wächst. Die vertieften Flächen waren ursprünglich rot gefüllt. Die Bandhenkel sind mit eingeritzten Ornamenten geschmückt. Sie werden von je zwei Widderköpfen bekrönt, von denen allerdings drei modern ergänzt sind.
Angeblich wurde dieser Kantharos zusammen mit einem kleinen weiblichen Totenschädel gefunden. Fundort und mögliche weitere Beigaben sind nicht überliefert.
