Die geflügelte Historia, Sinnbild der Geschichtsschreibung, trägt die Taten König Ludwigs XIV. (1638–1715, reg. 1654–1715) in ein Buch ein. Mit der anderen Hand hält sie das Medaillon mit dem Profilporträt des französischen Sonnenkönigs. Die Terrakotta-Gruppe diente als Modell für die 1685 im Schlosspark von Versailles aufgestellte Marmorskulptur. Ludwig wird auf der Höhe seines absolutistischen Glanzes verherrlicht: Invidia, die Personifikation des Neides, ist zu Boden gestürzt und zerreißt ihr eigenes Herz. Chronos, Gott der Zeit und Sinnbild der Vergänglichkeit, muss hier als Stütze für das Buch des immerwährenden Ruhmes dienen.
