Erich Angenendt legte nach einer Fotografenlehre und einem kurzem Studium an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf 1919 in Dortmund seine Meisterprüfung ab. Ab 1920 arbeitete er als selbständiger Fotograf und konzentrierte sich bald auf die Industriefotografie. Nach der Neugründung seines im Krieg zerstörten Ateliers 1950 avancierte Angenendt zum gefragten Bildermacher des deutschen Wirtschaftswunders. Künstlerisch stand er der „Subjektiven Fotografie“ nahe, deren Stilmittel er auf seine Ansichten der Schwerindustrie im Ruhrgebiet übertrug. Bildmontagen, Negativ-Kopien, starke Kontraste und die Betonung von Linien und Strukturen prägten auch Angenendts freie Arbeiten der 1950er Jahre. (Sven Schumacher)
