Die erste gedruckte Ausgabe des Psalmenkommentars von Cassiodorus wurde 1491 in Basel von Johannes Amerbach publiziert. In dieser frühen Phase des gedruckten Buches koexistieren häufig die neue Technik des Buchdrucks mit der herkömmlichen der Buchmalerei. Der Text ist zweispaltig in einer rundgotischen Schrifttype gesetzt. Die Initialen am Anfang von Kapiteln und Absätzen sind handschriftlich als blau- und rotfarbige Lombarden ergänzt, zudem sind an signifikanten Stellen Initialen auf Goldgrund ausgemalt sowie die Seitenränder mit florealem Rankwerk dekoriert. Das vorliegende Exemplar ist in einem Ledereinband der Zeit mit Blindprägungen gebunden.
