Die kleine Figur gehörte zum Deckelschmuck eines bronzenen Gefäßes (Lebes), wie sie in campanischen Tuffkistengräbern des 5. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. gefunden wurden. Es handelt sich um eine einheimische Arbeit, die unter griechischem Einfluss entstanden ist.
Die Figur stellt eine reitende Amazone dar, die sich nach links umwendet und einen Pfeil auf ihren Verfolger abschießt; Pferd und Bogen sind verloren. Die Amazone ist mit einem kurzen, gegürteten Chiton bekleidet und trägt eine spitze Mütze mit Nackenschutz, unter der die in die Stirn gekämmten Haare zu sehen sind. Auf dem Rücken hängt der flache Köcher, die Öffnung unterhalb der linken Schulter. Zwei schräge Linien auf der Brustseite deuten die Aufhängung an.
K. A. Neugebauer und Herbert Hoffmann halten die Figur eher für einen Skythen.
