The exhibition “Learning from Loheland” at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) presents a forgotten chapter of German design and art history: Loheland, a visionary feminist settlement and school project in the Rhön region in the state of Hesse that was founded concurrently with the Bauhaus in 1919. Loheland was influenced by social reform movements and avant-garde ideas for developing a new way of living. With a focus on the artistic aspects of Loheland, the MK&G has invited six contemporary women artists to explore the founding ideas of this extraordinary project in works developed especially for the exhibition.
