From 29 November to 3 December 2023, the MK&G messe will present the latest trends in international contemporary arts & crafts. A total of 54 selected designers – including four collectives – from Germany, France, the UK, Italy, the Czech Republic, USA, Iran, Japan, China and Korea will present high-quality unique pieces from the fields of jewellery and textile design, ceramics, metal and wood. A quarter of the exhibitors are taking part in the MK&G messe for the first time. And, for the second time, the fair will promote “Young Talents” by inviting five promising young artisans to Hamburg to debut their work.

The MK&G messe is the ideal place to get to know designers in person. In addition to one-on-one conversations at the stands, entertaining Pop-Up Talks are being introduced this year as a further opportunity to find out first-hand about trends in contemporary arts and crafts. The wide price range covered by the handcrafted objects is another feature that appeals to museum guests, design fans and collectors alike. The admission ticket furthermore entitles the holder to visit the MK&G messe several times. In parallel, a solo show by the acclaimed jewellery artist Margit Jäschke will open as part of the exhibition series “Contemporary Craft”.

The MK&G messe annually confers two internationally recognised awards on exhibitors at the fair. The winner of the prestigious Justus Brinckmann Award, endowed with 7,500 euros, is chosen by the eight-member jury on behalf of the Justus Brinckmann Gesellschaft, the friends’ society of the MK&G. In addition, a sponsorship prize of 2,500 euros is awarded to a young artisan.

The Justus Brinckmann Award and the New Generation Award will be presented on Tuesday, 28 November 2023 at 6 pm during the opening ceremony.

The MK&G messe will be accompanied by a multifaceted supporting programme. In addition to Pop-Up Talks, MK&G Design Talks will be held on trends in contemporary arts & crafts, featuring, among others, Axel Kufus, product designer and professor at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), Margit Jäschke, and Anne Petersen, publisher of the magazine “Salon”. The St. Pauli wine shop will offer daily wine tastings during the fair.
