Posters and graphic design holdings are referred to as “flat works” in the museum. Around 400,000 of these two-dimensional items are stored in the flat file cabinets of the Graphics and Poster Collection. In the last four years, more than 3500 have been added, 120 of which are on display in the exhibition. Using pie charts and other information graphics, we visualise the growing collection in all its variety and provide an insight into what goes on behind the scenes: what are the defining features of the Graphics and Poster Collection? How does something become part of the collection? How are these decisions made – and what happens next? Join us for a critical yet playful exploration of these aspects, learn more about the challenges of expanding the collection while being mindful of diversity concerns, and enjoy the works and infographics.
