Teaser text
Glitter is often found in places that are also spaces of the performative - on the stages of the theater, in cabaret and drag shows. But the material glitter itself also behaves performatively: it sparkles and flickers around unstoppably. It likes to make the  most atypical places its stage and yet, it remains undiscovered.

This city tour explores the hidden glitter of the city and seeks out glittering places. We will look at the performative potential of glitter at various stations. Stage, costume and material experts will guide us through the performative history of the material. Why does it glitter on stages and who is made to sparkle on them? Who owns the stage and who takes it? And why is glitter such an important part of it? The tour takes you to the stage of the Ohnsorg Theater, the Hanseatische Materialverwaltung and the studio of Wig-designer Karl Gadzali.

Hidden in the gaps between buildings and streets, glitter is also waiting to be discovered. Together with art historian and glitter enthusiast Sarah Steffens, we will walk through St. Georg and the Oberhafen and take a closer look at the city's material inbetween stops. There will also be time for a little chat and for your own glitter observations.

Meeting point: in front of the entrance to the Museum für Kunst & Gewerbe
End: The tour ends at Hamburg Central Station at around 7 pm. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to meet up in the M&V Bar in St. Georg and exchange ideas and impressions.

Free of charge, in German languages, limited to 15 persons, registration required at tickets.mkg-hamburg.de.

The tour is part of the supporting program of the exhibition “Glitter”.
