The pan-European type collective Underware has been designing typefaces since 1999, among them Bello, Dolly, and Zeitung. In this lecture, they will share their insights and inside stories about type design, a field of work that has rapidly evolved in the past 25 years. Lately, they have been exploring the paradimensional space of type design: Letters exist because they are written. Once you realize this, it becomes evident that type design is not as two-dimensional as it may initially seem, but actually consists out of not only three, but four dimensions. Or even more. There is not only more to the story, but also definitely more to the letter.
