Information design is everywhere in museums: timelines and maps are old favourites, especially in historical exhibitions, but we encounter many other items, from the bar chart to the food chain diagram. Drawing on a wide range of contemporary and historical examples, we will sketch out a typology of information graphics in exhibitions and discuss the particular potentials and challenges that they carry as components of museum communication. As part of this we will also have a look at the infographics we developed for the exhibition “Flat files and Paper Pies” currently on display.
