Lost in thought a young woman stretches out on the sleeveless shirt. In 1997 the Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki (*1940) was a guest artist and contributed to a part of Issey Miyake’s collection. Miyake’s timeless garments are characterised by their reduced forms and the use of the most recent fabrics. For example, since 1988 he has been experimenting with different kinds of pleated polyester. This led to the development of his line Pleats Please in 1993. Issey Miyake is an icon of Japanese fashion design and one of the most influential designers of the 20th century.
