Winged Historia, symbol of historiography, records the deeds of King Louis XIV (1638-1715, reg. 1654-1715) in a book. In her other hand she holds a medallion with the profile portrait of the Roi Soleil. This terracotta group served as a model for the marble sculpture installed in the park of Versailles in 1685. Louis is glorified at the height of his splendour: Invidia, personification of jealousy, has fallen down to the floor and tears her heart out. Chronos, god of time and symbol of mortality, serves as a prop to support this book of eternal glory.
