Museum discussions, introductions to exhibitions, projects – the museum’s educational unit, Forum K (see also P.2), enables 4,000 years of cultural history to be experienced in a whole range of different ways, both in words and by getting to grips with it physically. In the museum discussions we help visitors to find their way around in our permanent collections or also in the special exhibitions, invite them to ask questions and to have things explained to them individually. Over and above this we also want to encourage the awareness that the idea of design is the guiding principle of our museum, and that the history of a culture - whether it be historical or contemporary – can be understood by observing the way in which it forms the objects it uses.
A museum discussion can take place either in the form of an introduction (lasting ¾ hour– 1hour), a full museum discussion (2 hours) or a project (2.5 – 3 hours).
Museum discussions are aimed at the people who want to visit the museum, whether a kindergarten, a school class, a senior citizens’ group, a company outing or a private circle of enthusiasts. These informative events are moderated by freelance associates of the museum, and make it into a place where a very special experience is to be found.
If you are interested, you can book for groups either online on the web pages of the Museumsdienst Hamburg or under Tel. 040 - 428 131 – 0.
For individual visitors, public guided tours and lectures are on offer at the published fixed times.
