During one of his stays as a visiting scholar at the Universität der Künste in Berlin in 1999, Czech artist, Michal Cimala began to experiment with yellow plastic gas pipes. At the start, he created non-representational sculptures, which he later turned into sound objects by adding technical components of electric guitars, including strings and pick-ups. Cimala named this music-sculptural object after the place where he studied: Berlinino. It represents a turning point in the artist’s creative oeuvre, as subsequently, he created a whole series of singular musical instruments.
