In 2001, Apple introduced its first mp3-player: the iPod. The gadget proved instrumental in establishing the mp3 format. It was launched in conjunction with iTunes, its own “music shop” application to purchase and download digital music. The dial-like control became the trademark of subsequent iPod models. Other companies have copied the trademark white headphones for use with their products too.
