Pure Gold. Introduction

Discarded car tires, empty cleaning containers, used cardboard boxes - what most people put into the garbage is pure gold for some creatives! In view of increasing pollution of the oceans and dwindling material resources, the principle of recycling and upcycling is becoming increasingly important. The exhibition presents works by international designers who, at best - according to the wishes of the exhibition organizers - contribute to a new appreciation and added value. But at least the objects give suggestions for a different view of things that most of us dispose of carelessly. Please book your tour via the Museumsdienst Hamburg, Tel. 040 428 131-0.

The true value of the discarded: designers give waste a new life

In our disposable society there is an abundance of garbage, in Third World countries waste is the only way for many people to survive. Creating a new value from discarded things is now a global strategy. In industrialized countries, as in developing countries, there are designers who see waste as a resource and use it to design new objects. The exhibition presents some 80 exhibits by international designers who follow this principle: from side tables made of used flip flops to a stool made from discarded car tires to antique jugs of imitation corrugated cardboard vases. Often the recycled waste product can only be guessed - so surprising is the new shape in which it appears. Please book your tour via the Museumsdienst Hamburg, Tel. 040 428 131-0.
