Toys, designed by famous artists for their children, are among the rare surviving testimonies of their creativity. This includes the Town at the End of the World by the Cubist architecture painter  and Bauhaus artist Lyonel Feininger. The Town at the End of the World is comprised of small houses, figurines and trains carved from wood. This toy set reflects a longing for small towns and villages with Medieval churches, which Feininger frequently addressed in his paintings as an opponent of cities.
