This cutlery made of an exotic and precious material - ivory - demonstrates a great technical skill of its maker. Inspired by an antique pillar of worship, the handles of the knives and forks were carved in the shape of a male and a female herm. The muscular torso of the figures can be clearly discerned from beneath the Roman body armour, while the headgear reflects the courtly fashion of the time. Representative objects of this type, displayed in a chamber of curiosities, demonstrated creative potential of mankind and prosperity of their owner.
