The architect and designer Peter Behrens, who was born in Hamburg in 1868, is not only one of the most important representatives of Art Nouveau, he is also one of the pioneers of industrial design. From 1907 to 1914, he designed the complete outward appearance of AEG’s household gadgets, therefore, he set new standards for corporate design. His electric kettle with stand is considered one of his masterpieces. It is highly functional in form and reflects the “profound connection of art and industry” while being mass-produced, a characteristic Behrens aspired to in his designs.
