Koloman Moser was one of the leading modern artists in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century. He co-found the Vienna Secession in 1897, an art association that had broken away from the conservative academy.  Moser also designed several posters for the association’s exhibitions. This slender portrait design-format is what Moser is most famous for. The three figures are reminiscent of statues and allude to the unity of the three arts: architecture, painting and sculpture.
