Furniture Fitting "Goddess at a Window"

It is possible that this furniture fitting represents the Phoenician goddess Astarte as queen of heaven. It shows a female head in frontview, coiffed in Egyptian fashion, resting on what used to be three columns. Apart from the hair jewellery, she is adorned with tripartite earrings. This ivory fitting was part of a great bed. Other pieces of this bed can be seen in Paris, New York and Karlsruhe.
