Gerrit Rietveld (1888–1964)draft 1919, completion: 1940-1950Utrecht90 x 65 x 61cm

Gerrit Rietveld is one of the most important designers and architects of Modernity. In 1919, he joined the Dutch artists group De Stijl, who, like many other utopians after World War I, strove towards a new art in a new society.  He disassembles the form of a piece of furniture into its individual parts, reduces them to their simplest geometrical from and frees them of the materials texture.
